Classroom learning is strictly limited to 6 learners.

In 2019 we launched our own syllabus with great success: Level 5 Professional Diploma in Counselling & Psychotherapy for 2020.

With a combined experience, within our team, of over 40 years in the talking therapy world we have seen counselling trends come and go and understand the value and importance of those elements that stay constant.

We have wanted to share our own personal and professional knowledge and expertise on embracing humanity, creativity and profound healing for a long time. Writing our own syllabus has afforded us the freedom to do just that, whilst understanding and adhering to the professional standards of quality assurance needed for counselling based qualifications. Our own syllabus is the perfect blend of theoretical and practical based learning whilst providing you with an in depth knowledge to empower, heal and transform your clients lives.

You will be taken on a journey of self discovery that will be deeply healing, raw and challenging on a soul level whilst equipping you for the realities of working in the counselling and psychotherapy profession. We believe that you must be comfortable sitting in your own darkness, before you can sit in the darkness with others. Therefore, you will need to have a good level of self awareness, open mindedness and resilience to undertake this training.

We will explore;

THEORETICAL APPROACH

This course is an integrative course and encompasses elements and theories from the rich tapestry that is the psychology and therapy world. We start off by building a strong Person Centred foundation before weaving in elements of Psychodynamic, Gestalt, Cognitive Behavioural Therapy and Transactional Analysis.

ASSESSMENT

Assessment will take the form of written assignments, group & individual presentations, practical demonstrations of your counselling skills, journaling and creative projects. There are no exams.

It is important to us that our assessments suit all learner styles and being a therapist is not about assignment writing however, it is about how you apply your academic knowledge to your client work and your humanness.

COUNSELLING PLACEMENT

To successfully complete the course you will need to complete 100 hours of counselling practice with clients over two years.

There are a variety of counselling providers in and around Lincoln that you may be able to secure suitable placements with and we will always guide you with where to find them and what kind of clients they work with.

COUNSELLING SUPERVISION

It is a requirement that all counsellors and therefore student counsellors have regular supervision when working with clients. This ensures your safety, the client’s safety and aids to develop your skills and knowledge.

Supervision will be at the ratio of 1 hour of supervision, for every 8 client hours.

PERSONAL THERAPY

Due to the heavy emphasis of personal development on this course, we have a mandatory 15 hours of personal therapy as an intrinsic part of this course. We believe that we have to become comfortable with sitting in our own darkness, before we can sit in the darkness of others. It also provides you with the opportunity to find out more about yourself, uncover the ‘real’ you. This is something that is invaluable and will support the heavy emphasis on self reflection throughout the course.

Supporting Minds will support you in finding a suitable counsellor if need be. The cost of counselling starts from £35 an hour.

PROFESSIONAL RECOGNITION

This course meets the entry requirements for BACP membership. On commencement of the course we will provide you with the relevant documentation to apply for membership.

The course also meets the proposed SCoPED requirements.

JOB OPPORTUNITIES

It is important to recognise that traditional fulltime, 9-5 jobs in the therapy world are much harder to come by than in other professions.

However, what this means is you have the creativity and freedom to truly create the career of your dreams, doing exactly what you love.

This qualification will provide you with the skills and knowledge to apply for counselling jobs within organisations such as the NHS, charities and not for profits. It will also provide you with a safe and secure basis and the confidence to set up in private practice and start making your dream job a reality.

ENTRY REQUIREMENTS

This is a direct entry course, therefore you do not need to have studied the lower level counselling qualifications.

All learners must be aged 18 and over and will be assessed individually to determine their suitability to undertake foundation degree level learning and their ability to undergo the personal, transformative nature of the course.

You will be taken on a journey of self discovery that will be deeply healing, raw and challenging on a soul level whilst equipping you for the realities of working in the counselling and psychotherapy profession. Therefore, you will need to have a good level of self awareness, open mindedness and resilience to undertake this training.
